Marina in the Sky

9.02.05

Marina Towers, looking like a ginat hair-roller (or maybe a corn cob) with ample parking.

Skyscraper

9.01.05

It's finally September. This summer has seemingly gone on for years.

I've had to spend some time in the south loop lately (mostly getting lost) and while I know it's supposed to be the new "hot" area, there's no way I could see myself living there.

Snack Time

8.31.05

I'm a junkie. I love candy. But lately, as I've stood in the aisle and stared at the wrappers wondering what to buy, I've been overcome by a feeling of ambivalence. Maybe my sweet tooth is dying. Or maybe I'm finally starting to eat like a grownup.

The sun sets behind my Coke on the patio at Pat's Pizza.

Fruitas Fresca

8.27.05

Selling fruit dusted with sugar from a cart on Clark Street near Morse in Rogers Park.

Heart Swans

8.26.05

These empty swan paddleboats drifted away from the shore of the Lincoln Park Zoo lagoon to form this heart in the reflection of the Hancock building.

Backstage

8.25.05

View from the back of the stage at the Old Town School of Folk Music, Lincoln ave.

View From The Dorms

Looking northeast from the 11th floor, Mertz Hall, Loyola University.

The sun beams through, above this statue in Warren Park.

8.21.05

Over budget and behind schedule (big shock there) the shiny new Cloud Gate is (partially) revealed.

Relief

8.17.05

TOYS

8.16.05

The word toys should always be spelled with a backwards s, like the r in Toys r Us.

Abe Lincoln Square

8.15.05

A statue of the 16th American President. In front of a Walgreen's.

Cowpie Festival

8.14.05

This is what goes on at Shagbark farm the other 364 days a year.

Cowpie Blues Festival 2005

8.13.05

Shagbark Farm. Alaska, MI.

Pardon my self idulgence, but a little side note...I asked Penny to marry me from this same stage about two hours after this picture was taken.

She said yes.

Water Fall

8.12.05

The green neon obscured by the falling water is the sign for Dublin's Pub on State where it crosses Rush Street.

Champs!

8.10.05

The Hotel League 2005 summer softball season came to a glorious finish with the Sutton Place team (that's me holding the ball...#1 WOOOOO!) claiming victory after their stunning 11-9 victory over the two-time defending champion Hyatt.

Munchie's RedHots

8.09.05

Oakley and Montrose aves.

Lifeguard Daydream

8.08.05

While most people daydream about being at the beach, and the seagull daydreams of all the fish in lake Michigan, I saw this lifeguard staring dreamily toward the skyline.

The Chessplayer

8.07.05

Yes, I know that Chessplayer should be two words...but it's my picture and I'll call it whatever I damn well please. There's something about this pic that reminds me of the Picasso painting The Old Guitarist (1903). Is that egotistical of me?

Crossroads

8.06.05

Waiting for the Skokie Swift.

Last Call

8.05.05

Matisse on Diversey

Slide Abduction

8.04.05

Seconds after this picture was taken the slide dissapeared into the sky.

Prodigy

8.03.05

The corner of Michigan and Chicago aves.

Monarch in the Park

8.02.05.

Perhaps inspired by this butterfly (and knowing a little about the process of cocooning and rebirth) I've decided it's time for a new look. Not for me, but for the site.

The images will now be larger and come with clever (or maybe not) titles. Any input on the look of the site, the pics themselves or anything else you have on your mind is greatly

8.01.05

Under the Wabash Avenue bridge, looking east.

I love the way the boat's wake looks like an arrow.

7.31.05

Another Sunday night at work.

7.30.05

Monroe Harbor.

This was taken shortly after Dusk, the sky actually appearing darker than this shot represents. The open shutter and long exposure brought more light, and this amazing blue that apparently doesn't really exist.

7.29.05

Penny at the beach.

7.28.05

Parkway Manor Apts. Diversey Parkway near Sheffield.

7.27.05

From the top of the Ferris Wheel at Navy Pier, facing north-west.

7.24.05

Full moon fever. A cloudless night and the moon shone light a spot.

7.23.05

It finally rained! It's been the driest (and hottest) summer in some 70 years. But not today.

7.22.05

There's an old saying: the mirror never lies (neither does the camera), but it can distort. While not as well known (or as large) as Cloud Gate (the "bean"), this piece near pn Illinois just east of Michigan Avenue is an interesting (and lonely) piece of public art. Not everyone can be a rock star.

7.21.05

Millenium Park has quickly become one of my favorite places to take pictures. It's always so alive with lights and people and an energy that makes it feel like the world-class city Chicago should strive to be.

7.20.05
Looking east toward the city from near the Grand Avenue exit of LSD.

7.19.05

The view south from the Kendall College campus on Goose Island.

7.18.05 Air Dolphin

Among the many things Penny and I did for our birthdays was a trip to the Aquarium. And no visit to the Shedd is complete without the dolphin show.

7.17.05 Exhausted Bike

It's been so hot lately even the bicycles look tired. This grassy expanse in Lincoln Park is usually a lush, deep green. But the heat (and lack of) rain has turned most of the lawns in the city into something resembling straw.

7.16.05 Lighting the Candles.

7.15.05 The Rainbow Room

The view looking down from my back porch on the morning of my 38th birthday.
